Cultural References

A cultural reference from my apartment deals with the speed at which someone is speaking. One of my roommates is named Victoria and talks extremely slow (at least compared to the rest of us). Now, whenever someone talks slow or stumbles over their words to the point that it doesn't really make sense it can be refered to as "pulling a tori".

A cultural reference in Charlotte is "the big pink church". The Charlotte newspaper even refered to it as this in a recent article. http://www.wsoctv.com/vj/15046367/detail.html

At my highschool we had a big open area outside between all of the buildings that we refered to as the quad. At lunch most people outside in the quad and depending on what group you were in there were certain trees that you were supposed to sit under. There was the freshman tree, the sophmore tree, the junior tree, the senior tree, and then some other trees for group such as the "smart people" or the "theatre people".

In Jackson, MI where my grandparents live everyone refers to one of the local restaurants as the dairy even though it has not been called the dairy since before I was born.
